April 2018
We have had to let Casper 2 go due to a significant deterioration in his health. We will miss you so much. King of the bounce!
January 2018
We were shocked in October to discover that Casper has been diagnosed with DCM (Dilated Cardio Myopathy).
Upon investigation and after completing an ultrasound in October, we started treatment.
To be sure he was receiving an effective treatment he has another ultrasound in December 2017, and our vet confirmed from the second ultrasound that is condition had not deteriorated, he was stable.
He is currently on the following medication:
10am - 0.4 Furosemide 40mg and 1/4 tablet Vetmedin Pimobendane Chew 1.25mg
6pm - 0.4 Furosemide 40mg (introduced in November 2017, as the cough was becoming more frequent)
12pm 0.4 Furosemide 40mg and 1/4 tablet Vetmedin Pimobendane Chew 1.25mg
We are controlling the fluid in his chest cavity by introducing the 6pm does of Furosemide 40mg at 0.4. It appears to be reducing the cough, which we are happy about.
October 2017
Casper has been diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. This is a rare condition that causes a ferret's heart to enlarge or become weak. Often, the animal's heart experiences increasing thickness, especially in the left ventricular. High blood pressure and other side effects can also occur because of this disorder.
We are focusing on treatment with our vet and researching his conditions.
We have found the following information that may help others become more aware of this condition and treat early.
